What does LAMTANS Engineering do?
We are a retrofit industry specialist based in Manchester. We handle home renovations, insulation, solar panels, heat pumps, gas boilers, and grant-funded work (ECO4, BUS Scheme, Warm Homes Plan).
Where are you based?
We are based in Manchester and cover private work across Manchester and surrounding towns — Stockport, Oldham, Droylsden, Ashton-under-Lyne and Tameside. For grant work, we cover the whole of the UK.
How long have you been in business?
We have completed over 300 successful projects and have been operating for several years.
What accreditations do you hold?
We are fully industry accredited. Our accreditations include TrustMark, PAS 2035, IAA, ICO, Ofgem, Elmhurst Energy, SimplyCertification and GreenDeal. You can view them all on our accreditations page.
Are you Gas Safe registered?
Yes — we are Gas Safe registered for all gas boiler installations.
Are you OFTEC registered?

What types of loft conversions do you offer?
We offer Velux, dormer, hip-to-gable, mansard, and room-in-roof conversions, and advise you based on your property and budget. Learn more about loft conversions.
How much value does a loft conversion add?
A well-executed loft conversion can add 15–20% to your home’s value.
What types of insulation do you install?
We install loft, cavity wall, internal wall (IWI), external wall (EWI), underfloor, solid floor, flat roof, pitched roof, and park home insulation.
Do solar panels work on cloudy days?
Yes — solar panels generate electricity from daylight, not direct sunlight, so they work on cloudy days.
How long do solar panels last?
Most solar panels come with a 25-year performance warranty and can last 30+ years.
Is an air source heat pump noisy?
Modern air source heat pumps are very quiet — typically 40–50 decibels, similar to a fridge hum or a quiet conversation.
Can I get a heat pump if I live in a flat?
Yes, but you may need permission from your landlord or management company. We advise you during the survey.
Grants 10
What grants are available?
There are three main grants: ECO4 (until December 2026), the BUS Scheme (heat pump grants), and the Warm Homes Plan (from 2026).
What is ECO4?
ECO4 is the government’s Energy Company Obligation scheme. It provides free insulation and heating upgrades for eligible households and runs until 31 December 2026. See ECO4 and Warm Homes Plan grants.
Who qualifies for ECO4?
You may qualify if you receive certain benefits (Universal Credit, Pension Credit, etc.) or your home has a low EPC rating (D, E, F, or G).
What does ECO4 cover?
Loft insulation, cavity wall insulation, internal and external wall insulation, flat roof insulation, underfloor insulation, park home insulation, gas boiler upgrades, heating controls, and first-time central heating.
What is the BUS Scheme?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides £7,500 towards heat pump installation (£9,000 for off-gas properties). It is open to all homeowners. See the BUS Scheme.
Do I need to be on benefits for the BUS Scheme?
No — the BUS Scheme is open to all homeowners and is not means-tested.
What is the Warm Homes Plan?
The Warm Homes Plan is the new government scheme replacing ECO4 from 2026, with £15bn of investment to upgrade 5 million homes.
Can I get more than one grant?
In some cases, yes — you may qualify for both ECO4 and the BUS Scheme if you meet the criteria for both.
How much does a grant cost?
For eligible households, ECO4 covers the full cost (£0). The BUS Scheme covers £7,500–£9,000 of the heat pump cost.
Do I need to pay anything back?
No — grants are not loans. There is nothing to repay.

No — most work allows you to stay in your home.

How much does a loft conversion cost?
Velux £15,000–25,000, dormer £25,000–45,000, hip-to-gable £35,000–55,000, mansard £45,000–70,000.
How much does a gas boiler installation cost?
Combi £1,500–3,500, system £1,800–4,000, heat-only £1,800–3,500.
How much does an air source heat pump cost?
Before grant £8,000–13,000. After the £7,500 BUS grant, £500–5,500.
How much do solar panels cost?
4kW system £6,500–8,000. 4kW + battery £10,000–14,000.
