The Challenge

The customer needed an extra bedroom for their growing family. Their loft had limited headroom and was unused.

Our Solution

  • Reinforced structural floor meeting building regulations
  • New staircase for loft access
  • Two Velux windows at the rear and one dormer window at the front
  • PAS 2035-compliant insulation between and over the rafters

Case Study 2 · External Wall Insulation

External Wall Insulation in Manchester

This project shows how external wall insulation can transform a 1930s solid-wall home in Manchester — improving thermal efficiency, reducing energy bills and enhancing comfort and kerb appeal.

External Wall Insulation
Project: External wall insulation (EWI) Location: Manchester (1930s semi-detached)

The Challenge

A 1930s solid-wall home was losing heat through the walls, resulting in high energy bills and cold rooms. The customer wanted to keep the external appearance but improve thermal efficiency.

Our Solution

  • Full property survey: cavity condition, exposure and damp assessment
  • 90mm PIR insulation boards installed
  • Silicone render finish in the customer’s chosen colour
  • New window sills and reveals fitted
  • All work PAS 2035 compliant for energy efficiency and safety

The Result

The home is warmer, quieter and more energy efficient, with estimated energy-bill savings of around 30–40%. The render finish also enhanced kerb appeal.

The external wall insulation has transformed our home. It looks beautiful and we have already noticed the difference in warmth.

Case Study 3 · Solar & Battery Storage

Solar Panels and Battery Storage in Oldham

This project shows how a 4kW solar panel system combined with 5kWh battery storage helped an Oldham home reduce grid dependency, cut electricity bills and store excess energy efficiently.

Solar Panels
Project: Solar PV and battery storage Location: Oldham

The Challenge

The customer wanted to reduce electricity bills and become less dependent on the grid. As they were out during the day, without a battery they would export most of their solar generation.

Our Solution

  • 4kW solar panel system (10 panels, south-facing roof)
  • 5kWh battery storage (AC-coupled)
  • Smart meter and monitoring system
  • SEG export tariff application (Octopus Outgoing)

The Result

Estimated annual saving of around £800–£1,000. The customer now generates their own electricity and stores excess for evening use, with grid dependency reduced by around 70%.

LAMTANS handled the certification and helped us apply for the export tariff. Professional from start to finish. Our bills have dropped by over 60%.

Case Study 4 · Full House Renovation

Full House Renovation in Droylsden

This full house renovation in Droylsden shows how LAMTANS transformed a run-down property into a modern, energy-efficient home with upgraded insulation, heating and finishes throughout.

Full Home Renovation
Project: Full house renovation Location: Droylsden, Tameside

The Challenge

A run-down property needed complete modernisation. The customer wanted a turnkey solution — everything managed by one company.

Our Solution

  • New kitchen (fitted with appliances)
  • New bathroom with walk-in shower
  • Full rewiring and new consumer unit
  • New central heating with combi boiler
  • Loft insulation (PAS 2035 compliant)
  • Internal wall insulation (IWI) on external walls
  • Plastering throughout
  • New flooring (LVT downstairs, carpet upstairs)
  • Decorating in the customer’s chosen colours

The Result

A modern, energy-efficient home ready for the customer to move into, with the EPC rating improved from E to C.

LAMTANS managed everything from start to finish. Stress-free experience.

Case Study 5 · Air Source Heat Pump

Air Source Heat Pump in Ashton-under-Lyne

This Ashton-under-Lyne project shows how LAMTANS Engineering installed a 9kW air source heat pump with a BUS Scheme grant, helping the homeowner reduce energy costs and switch to renewable heating.

Heat Pump
Project: Air source heat pump (ASHP) with BUS Scheme grant Location: Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside

The Challenge

The customer wanted to replace their old oil boiler and claim the BUS Scheme grant. Their home had good insulation but needed a heat pump-specific design.

Our Solution

  • 9kW air source heat pump (outdoor unit)
  • New hot water cylinder (250L)
  • Upgraded radiators (larger surface area for lower flow temperatures)
  • Smart heating controls (weather compensation)
  • BUS Scheme grant application (£9,000 — off-gas property)

The Result

The home is now heated by renewable energy with lower running costs compared with oil, with an estimated annual saving of around £500–£700.

We were nervous about switching to a heat pump, but LAMTANS put our minds at ease. The process was smooth, and the grant application was handled for us.

Case Study 6 · Internal Wall Insulation

Internal Wall Insulation in Manchester

This Manchester Victorian terrace project shows how LAMTANS upgraded solid walls with internal wall insulation — improving warmth and resolving condensation while preserving the original brickwork.

Internal Wall Insulation
Project: Internal wall insulation (IWI) Location: Manchester (Victorian terrace)

The Challenge

A Victorian terrace with solid walls was losing heat through the external walls. External wall insulation was not possible (conservation area) and the customer wanted to keep the original brickwork appearance.

Our Solution

  • Vapour control layer to prevent condensation
  • 50mm PIR insulation boards
  • Plaster skim finish
  • New skirting boards and architraves
  • Radiators moved forward to accommodate the thicker walls

The Result

The living room and dining room are noticeably warmer and the condensation issues were resolved. The original brickwork remains visible from the outside.

We were worried about losing floor space, but the difference is barely noticeable – and the warmth is significant.
